This tea is from a remote area in central China. Hubei province is not very famous for its high quality teas, but on the way to both Chongqing and Sichuan province is a corner of this province the size of Holland. This area of Hubei province give an insight on how central China looks: Magnificent high mountains, wonderful valleys with broad rivers and because of all this: great tea.
After checking out many tea areas in Enshi, Bajiao, Daxiagu, we found that we needed a more remote area for a new tea, possible to introduce to the rest of the world. After talking to many people int he towns, we found that the uncle of a girl in a tea shop could have something we wanted.
And there we went again, in the bus for 4,5 hours to an area called Hefeng. After arriving in Hefeng we took another bus to the small area of this uncle. This uncle was so nice to pick us up from the bus-stop, where he introduced himself as mister Tian.
Mister Tian was the person we have been looking for. A very calm guy, walking slowly and talking about green tea. Introducing us to his family and invited us to sit down for a cup of tea, a cup of green tea of course. We do have some experience with good quality tea, we knew after the first sip that this tea is very suitable for the tea adventure collection. Of course we didn't say too much about that yet, but kept listening to mister Tian. He told us that his tea is from a number of mountains surrounding his small village. The people living on these mountains had always cultivated rice nearby their houses and therefore built terraces. About a decade ago, they decided to turn a number of these terraces into small tea gardens. Besides that, they designed more small tea gardens within the forest. Together with mister Tian they set up a system, which could provide them with high quality tea leaves for numerous generations. Mister Tian took the lead and built a small processing factory, therefore the villagers had a buyer for their high quality tea leaves. Still amazed by this story, we asked him if we could see these terraces and surrounded-by-forest mini tea gardens. Although he didn't understand why someone would be interested in seeing that, we went there. Our altitude meter showed 800meter when we finally arrived at this natural place, for natural tea. This is the right area for growing natural tea, this is where great tea is from. We found what we were looking for, a unique very high quality green tea from the tea adventure selection. Water at 80 degrees Celsius, 2 -3 gram tea per infusion, 2 gram per glass and around 4 gram tea leaves when you use a large tea pot. You can keep pouring water till the tea loses its taste. With high quality tea, you can steep for at least 5 times. If you use a Gaiwan, then just steep the tea for around 10 seconds. Wait slightly longer if consider the tea as too light.
