If you're familiar with white tea, you may have heard of a relatively low grade of white tea called Shoumei. If you think it is the lowest quality white tea available though, you are wrong.
Shoumei is a pretty white tea, fuller in flavor compared to other white teas. Unlike the Silver Needle and White Peony this white tea contains only leaves and no buds.
We are very pleased that we have managed to find the only good and organic Shoumei from Zhenghe.
We’re very familiar with white tea from Zenghe since we visited this area many times. Zenghe is the production area of many cheaper white teas. This is because the teagrowers find that cheaper whte teas are in high demand.
Tea adventure is not a fan of cheap teas and we kept searching for tea that was sustainably produced. It was a long search, untill our last visit in the summer of 2016.
In 2016 we managed to find a small quantity of organic Shoumei white tea. But it did not come cheap...Our price for the organic Shoumei is 12 times higher than we would pay for a non-organic Shoumei. This explains why it is so difficult to get organic Chinese tea. We decided to buy and offer this tea anyway, since we feel very strongly about this. Change can only happen in small steps. You can help us change the world of organic tea by being this Shoumei tea.
When we sell more organic tea, more tea growers will switch to producing organic tea, and subsequently the prices will become lower. And this is whatthe teagrowers in Zenghe want as well.
